KAYAK CRABBING IN OREGON

KAYAK CRABBING FOR DELICIOUS DUNGENESS CRAB ALONG THE BEAUTIFUL OREGON COAST.
ALMOST ANY PLACE ALONG THE COAST HAS GREAT CRABBING, BUT MY FAVORITE AREA IS AROUND WINCHESTER BAY.
YOU WILL NEED AN ENCLOSED CRAB POT, A BUOY WITH YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND ODFW IDENTIFICATION NUMBER AND EXTRA ROPE BECAUSE OF TIDE CHANGE. THE BEST CRAB BAIT IS RAW CHICKEN LEGS PUT IN A SMALL COMPARTMENT AND TIED DOWN INSIDE THE CRAB POT.
ALSO A COOLER WITH ICE UNDER A WET TOWEL. DO NOT PUT THEM IN SALTWATER AS THEY WILL RUN OUT OF OXYGEN AND COULD DIE.
MOST IMPORTANT, YOU WILL NEED YOUR OREGON SHELLFISH LICENSE.
THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO GO CRABBING IS FROM LATE SEPTEMBER THROUGH NOVEMBER. THE CRABS ARE MOLTING DURING THE SUMMER.  THE BEST TIME OF DAY IS AT SLACK TIDE. THIS IS ONE HOUR ON EACH SIDE OF THE HIGH AND LOW TIDES. THAT IS WHEN THE CURRENT IS MOVING THE SLOWEST.
